Monday limerick: We adopted a dog!

We went to the Brother Wolf home
to meet dogs who have been left alone.
We found one to keep.
Her name is Maggie -
a lab mutt who is already grown.

We’ve been talking about getting a dog since we first got together almost two years ago, so it wasn’t really a rash decision. We went to our local no-kill shelter on Friday to meet the dogs and scope the scene. We met Spot and Maggie and decided to return on Sunday for what they call Outward Hound – a chance to join a group hike with the dogs and other volunteers. Sunday came and Spot had been adopted, so we wound up hiking with 5-year-old Maggie and her crate mate Wanda. Both were lovely, sweet, well-behaved dogs who made BFFs with us immediately. Unfortunately we can’t possibly adopt two dogs and make a baby all at the same time, so we made a choice. Hopefully Wanda’s adoptive family – whoever they might be – will keep us in the loop, so we can get those two together for playdates. In the meantime, Maggie is in the care of the shelter until we return from inauguration next week. Needless to say, we can’t wait to bring her home!
